    The Early Chapters

    It all started in 2008 when father, Arthur Sigel, decided to join a local winter farmers market in Laramie, Wyoming. His decision to join was made because of our growing underground following of friends and family buying grass fed and grass finished beef. Our community loved having first-hand knowledge of their food and their rancher. What started as a rewarding side business has blossomed into a thriving community demand. Our specialty in grass fed beef expanded to include pasture raised pork; pasture raised chickens and eggs. Our name, "Black Market Farm" honors the story of how we began:  one family at a time.

    History

    With an 8,000-foot elevation, Hecht Creek Ranch is located in Centennial, Wyoming, just 20 miles outside of Laramie. With a population of 100, there are more animals on our farm than there are people in our town. Hecht Creek Ranch is named after the small stream that flows through two canyons in Sheep Mountain onto the ranch. The ranch buildings are located along and above Hecht Creek. The creek itself was named after Mr. Reynold Hecht, who homesteaded the ranch in the late 1800's.
